How to find your passion

The Start

Finding your passion is a challenging quest but not impossible to achieve. All you need is time and have your eyes and brain wide open to receive the signals where your love is.

For me was a matter of time, and knowing that all the path I walked was for a reason. I have found my real passion for food photography at 41 years old after doing lots of things that now I understand were for a reason.

When I was young and finished high school, I thought that I wanted to study something related to cuisine. But at the moment, I couldn’t believe I could make a living out of that, so I studied business administration, thinking that one day I would pursue that idea.

The Journey

Time went by, working in big companies in strategy and logistics. I even made an MBA in the middle, focusing on leisure management, thinking I could use that in the future when I open my own creative or food-related business.

My first approach to food was when I opened a bakery supply business with my sisters. We imported different supplies for young bakery entrepreneurs or people who love to bake as we did. We even did simple bakery classes to promote our products. That was when I felt the first spark with food. But the business was not lucrative enough for the two of us, so I was tempted to leave for an opportunity in my university.

I moved to the university to organize a unit from scratch, and it was a beautiful challenge. I also thrive on my heart with beautiful memories from the people. And it brings up my other passion, organizing and learning new things every day.

But finally, we decided with my husband to immigrate to Australia from Peru in 2017. So, in 2018 I started my food blog to share my recipes and pursue what I love. I was so happy developing my recipes and publishing them. I thanked my husband for supporting my dream and pushing me to improve every day.

As Meringue, you will rise when you keep beating and searching for your passion.

Next Steps

I decided to make a living out of it, so in 2020 I started to study by myself how to make my blog more professional (I didn’t start before because I had my son in 2019 and that first year, only the three of us was very hard to manage)

I needed to improve my photography skills. I didn’t know how to use a camera in manual mode, so I invested in my first course: a beginner Bootcamp (by Joanie Simon) and finally fell in love with a camera.

I can’t describe it, but it was magical to understand how you can make a dish come up the screen. I finally get the result I was looking in all those cooking books, food magazines and blogs that I follow for years.

After that, I continue learning more about food photography with Lauren Caris (Photography Academy) and Kimberly Espinel (photography and styling course). I will get more in-depth in other posts.

I decided that I was ready to be a creative entrepreneur. I started my food photography business to help other bloggers or restaurants thrive thru the images that we capture or develop a recipe for a brand and make stunning pictures out of it.

Now I feel that I’m beginning my true journey of living from my passion, so I invite you never to give up if I found my love for food photography at 41 years in Australia; why can’t you?
